New Bishop Welcomed to Upper East Area of Diocese

Nine ministries in the north east area of the diocese came together to welcome the Rt. Rev. Charles vonRosenberg and his wife Annie with what was called a “Bishop’s Bash.” The event was held on Sunday, March 21 in the Ballroom of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.

Parishioners from the worship community in Rogersville, St. Thomas’ Church, Elizabethton; St. John’s, Johnson City; St. Paul’s, St. Timothy’s, and St. Christopher’s, Kingsport; St. Columba’s. Bristol; St. James’, Greenville, and the ETSU Episcopal Ministries greeted the bishop with information about the area, and an afternoon of fellowship and entertainment.

Under the direction of Patricia Raynolds, diocesan coordinator of diocesan youth activities, and Michael Legg, a youth group representing three parishes, presented an original drama, “We are the Future of this Church.”

The Rev. Suzanne Smitherman, assistant to the rector, St. Paul’s, Kingsport, and the Rev. Frank Cooper, rector, St. John’s, Johnson City, were chairpersons of the event.
