| Olde English Garden
Fete St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Maryville, will hold an Olde English Garden Fete on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. The first Garden Fete, part of the St. Andrews 75th Anniversary celebrations in 1998, was so popular that it will become an annual event. The event is modeled on garden parties which are held every summer at churches and village greens throughout Britain. Scottish music performed by the Knoxville Pipe and Drum Band will be featured again this year. There will also be English music and dance by the Lark-in-the-Morning Dance Group, which will also include Maypole dancing. A new musical feature is added to this years festivities. The E. T. Albion Brass Band will perform British songs, hymns and military marches in the British Brass Band tradition. There will be other entertainment, including a medieval fashion show, a wandering magician, and demonstrations of ancient crafts, such as weaving, spinning, and a blacksmith. There will be lots of activities for children, including games and crafts. This year an additional music program will be held inside the church that will include the St. Andrews adult and childrens choirs, handbell choir, and a special flute choir that will play British folk tunes. Typical British foods will be available, including Ploughmans Lunches, sausage rolls, tea and scones, strawberries and cream, and a variety of British baked goods. Admission to the event is free.
