Diocesan Leadership Day Creates “Feeling of Family” The more than 100 people who attended the Diocesan Leadership Day on Oct. 17 found to their satisfaction that spending a beautiful autumn day discussing taxes, insurance, money and church law was not a day lost but one of knowledge found. Offered as a resource by the Bishop, staff, and volunteers of Diocesan House, the workshop provided church leaders from throughout the diocese with information on the often confusing topics of clergy compensation, property insurance, audits, discretionary funds and parochial reports. One participant completing the evaluation form wrote that the conference brought the church and church members together. There was a feeling of family, the writer stated. We need to develop this feeling. The conference also helped dispel the sense of individual congregations versus the diocese. The writer added that more events such as the leadership day needed to be held, a sentiment that was repeated numerous times on other evaluation forms. Clergy, senior and junior wardens and treasurers attended the conference held at Church of the Good Samaritan, Knoxville. Many attendees remarked that the conference would be valuable to new vestry members. Plans are to make the conference an annual event. |
