Seven Ministries Receive Opportunity Fund Grants

More than $66,000 in social ministries grants from the Opportunity Fund was awarded at the September Bishop and Council meeting. Ministries throughout the diocese receiving grants were:

  • Alzheimer’s Lakeway Program, Inc., Morristown, $11,200 to support and help expand this program which provides adult day care for persons with mild to moderate cognitive impairment and counseling and support for their families.
  • Chattanooga Endeavors, Inc., Chattanooga, $10,000 to help ex-offenders deal with their anti-social behavior, provide help in developing organizational skills and work place habits and provide access to meaningful jobs.
  • Hosanna, Chattanooga, $15,000 to provide funds for start up operation of a second Hosanna House, which provides a safe and secure home for physically challenged adults.
  • Interfaith Health Clinic, Knoxville, $10,000, to provide affordable and quality health care to low income, working uninsured persons.
  • Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, Elizabethton, $10,000 for part of the cost of a refrigerated truck necessary to start a program of collecting unused food donated by restaurants, caterers and hospitals and transporting them to feeding programs for the hungry.
  • Sojourners Institute, Knoxville, $5,500 for operating costs of the Labyrinth Project — a portable labyrinth taken to churches and other sites giving people the opportunity to participate in this moving meditation.
  • St. Catherine’s Shelter, Chattanooga, $5,000 to provide safe and clean over night shelter and meals for homeless women and children.
