World Wide Members of Daughters of the King Meet in Denver by Sally Gervin
Brazil, South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Haiti, Bejing were represented as well as all points of the United States, including Hawaii. Our theme, Revive US Again--Ransomed, Forgiven, Healed, Restored, gave The Rt. Rev. Roger White, Bishop of The Diocese of Milwaukee and National Chaplain of the Daughters and The Rt. Rev. William Frye, Bishop of the Diocese of Colorado, Retired, much fodder for the teachings they gave to us each day. Our days were filled with food, fellowship, Morning Prayer, teachings, bible study, Eucharist, workshops, music, and more food and fellowship. Our first time of worship together was a beautiful Taize service, led by our music leaders for the six days, The Glory Bound Singers. These gifted musicians are Daughters of the King from Texas. Workshop offerings gave us the opportunity to explore and learn more about evangelism, journaling, leadership, healing prayer, women of the Bible, forgiveness, bylaw changes, mission, the Alpha course and liturgical clowning. Business matters that needed to be taken care of included bylaw changes that reflect our need to accommodate our growing Order not only internationally, but also it's spread to other denominations. We currently have affiliate chapters in the Roman Catholic Church and other denominations are showing interest. Fifteen new Council members were elected. Ginger Dougherty from the chapter at St. John's Cathedral is one of our new council members. In addition to the 15 elected council members, the eight provincial presidents serve on the council. During our time together, we were brought up to date on the missionary work of the Order funded through our Self-Denial Fund. We heard about the accomplishments of the women who have received scholarship aid through our Master's Fund. And we shared in the excitement of our very own office complex in Atlanta, purchased with funds donated to our Endowment Fund. Junior Daughters were well represented, coming from across the United States, Africa and Brazil. Junior members and young working women now make up the largest number of new members in our rapidly growing Order. The highlight of our last evening together was the presence of our Presiding Bishop, The Most Rev. Frank T. Griswold and his wife Phoebe at our closing banquet. Their words to us were encouraging and challenging. Sunday found us drifting toward home, General Convention, or extended vacations, saying goodbye to old and new friends, renewed and re-energized in our commitment to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For His Sake Gervin is Diocesan representative of the Daughters of the King |
