Awakens How do we keep the church from going out of business? The question seems silly if you didnt think that the church is going out of business, but the reality is that churches will be struggling to stay alive in ten years if the present trends continue. Diocesan Stewardship Commission Report Stewardship leaders along, with their rectors and vicars, have given the new Stewardship Commission a close up look at stewardship activities in this Diocese. Profile: St. Albans, Hixson, has a tradition of growth. Begun as a parochial mission of St. Peters Church, Chattanooga, in December, 1979, the church worshiped in a local elementary school with the Rev. William T. Patten as vicar. St. Albans, Hixson, will open an Adult Day Center in early 2001. The Center is designed to offer care to the mother, father, husband or wife who is no longer able to safely stay home alone. Deacons;
One Name, There are two very different types of deacons in the Episcopal Church today. The use of the same term and ordination rites for these very different types of deacons result in much of the confusion. Ministry Models for Small Congregations On a picture-perfect weekend in October, small-church clergy and laity gathered at the DuBose Conference Center in Monteagle, Tenn., for Gathering 2000 sponsored by the Center for Ministry in Small Churches. This conference, including participants from six dioceses, featured four presenting teams from small congregations.
