The Rev. Matilda Dunn is the Chaplain for Campus Ministries

Celebrating a New Ministry
The Rev. Betty Latham, left, and the Rev. Matilda Dunn share the joy of Dunn’s installation as the chaplain for the Chattanooga campus ministry. Dunn is the chaplain for The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Community College. Bishop Charles vonRosenberg, D.D. celebrated at her induction.

The Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. was the site of the institution and induction of the Rev. Matilda Dunn as the Episcopal chaplain for Chattanooga State Community College and The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.

The Rt. Rev. Charles G. vonRosenberg, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of East Tennessee was the officiant and celebrant at the 6 p.m. service on November 29.

The Episcopal Commission of Southeast Tennessee (ECSET) Board presented Dunn to the bishop for induction.

The bishop asked the members of ECSET and the Chattanooga area Episcopal Churches to recommit themselves to the Lord and to this Episcopal ministry of higher education.

The Rev. Dr. Michael Doty, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Athens, preached at the service, reminding the congregation of their involvement in this ministry with Dunn.

At the induction, representatives of the Chattanooga area Episcopal Churches and the Higher Education Communities made presentations appropriate to the nature of the new ministry and to the order of the minister.

Dunn received the gifts and knelt to accept her service with the Chattanooga Episcopal Ministry of Higher Education.

The Bishop then presented the new chaplain and her family to the congregation.

The service continued with the celebration of the Eucharist.

Everyone was then invited to a reception in Dunn’s honor in the parish hall of the Church of the Nativity.
