Three From Diocese Enter Seminary

Claire Keene of St. John’s Cathedral, Knoxville, Lou Parsons of St. Timothy’s, Signal Mountain, and Nancy Pickering of Church of the Ascension, Knoxville, have begun studies at the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Keene and Parsons entered the three-year Master of Divinity program; Pickering is a special student. They are among 45 new students entering this year, bringing the total student body to a record enrollment of 124. Eighty-nine seminarians are studying in anticipation of ordination as Episcopal Clergy.

The School of Theology is composed of the residential Seminary and a Programs Center which offers spiritual growth and leadership opportunities, education at-a-distance, and continuing education for laity, clergy and congregations. Founded in the mid-1800s, the University is located on 10,000 wooded acres on the Cumberland Plateau at Sewanee between Chattanooga and Nashville.

For the second year in a row the College of Arts and Sciences, with 1,300 undergraduates, has been named one of the top 25 liberal arts colleges in the nation by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The University is owned by 28 Episcopal dioceses in the United States, including the Diocese of East Tennessee.
