DOK Meets for Annual Spring Assembly

by Pam Doty | Editor, East Tennessee Episcopalian

The Daughters of the King met for their annual Spring Assembly at Camp Carson in Newport. The order conducted business at the diocesan level and installed new officers.

The Ven. Dr. Michael Doty, archdeacon for mission for the Diocese of East Tennessee was the featured speaker for the Saturday morning session.

He addressed the group in terms of mutual purpose -- mission and the use of spiritual gifts to accomplish that mission. Referring to the handbook he noted that the object of the Order is “the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through Prayer, Service and Evangelism.”

“The seven spiritual gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord,” he said, “are the ways in which we as divinely gifted people carry out God’s mission of reconciliation and redemption in the world.”

Canon Thomas Rasnick, of St. John’s Cathedral, celebrated the Eucharist and installed the new officers for the year.

Diocesan officers for the Order of Daughters of the King are: Lucy Frye, president; Georgia Parry, vice president; Dr. Patricia Hinton, secretary; and Carolyn Swilley, treasurer.

Frye said, “I will go anywhere I’m needed to help get a chapter of Daughters of the King started.” She is available for consultation and support by calling 865-691-5428.
