Helping in Appalachia by Carolyn Dicer We have received word of another direct way to support the health and well being of these families and children who are our neighbors. As you plan your charity gifts for the holiday season you may want to respond to a request from the Food Life Services of Campbell County. This food pantry located in LaFollette, TN fed 2,851 persons in September and has notified us of a food and funding shortage as they approach the holidays and cold winter months. Of course you are urged to support the feeding ministries in your own congregations and communities and consider this one more opportunity to work together as a Diocese in the name of our Lord. Just $10.00 will buy a case of corn, or a 50 pound bag of rice, or a
case of dried beans. Checks can be mailed to Food/Life Services PO Box
804 Jacksboro, TN 37757. Congregations, church school classes, youth groups,
and outreach committees who wish to do a "hands on" holiday
feeding project are asked to collect canned fruit and soups. These are
special treats for children and the elderly according to Diane Roberts
President of Food/Life Services. Gifts of fruit and soup can be delivered
to the Diocesan House at 401 Cumberland Avenue, Knoxville, 865.521-2900. Carolyn Dicer is Bishop's Deputy for Program in the Diocese of East Tennessee. |
