Episcopal teen honored by YWCA
The YWCA of Knoxville recently held its annual Tribute to Women, recognizing leadership and service to the community. Ashley Gregory, a communicant of St. James', Knoxville, was chosen to receive the award in the teen category.

She has shown tremendous commitment and leadership abilities in all areas of her life. She is committed to her education, but her commitment extends beyond herself to her immediate family, her church family, and the community in which she lives. She has exhibited leadership skills through her involvement and achievements as a majorette, as vice president of the Russian Club and as Most Outstanding Student in her Russian studies. She is also a member of the Key Club, National Honor Society and the marching band.

Her compassion for children and for the homeless in the community is demonstrated in her volunteerism at Voluntary Ministry Center, the Ronald McDonald House and the Helping Hands Food Pantry. She enjoys visiting with the elderly and walking in fund raisers. She has participated in the Angel Tree, the Empty Stocking Fund and "Santa Paws" for the Humane Society.

She was nominated for the honor by St. James Episcopal Church.

College and University students are invited to National Gathering on Dec. 28, 2000-Jan. 1, 2001
Young adults and students are invited to attend the Episcopal National Gathering of College and University Students 2000 to be held December 28, 2000-January 1, 2001 at the YMCA of the Rockies in scenic Estes Park, Colorado.

The event is a time to explore new challenges facing students -- in relationships with God, with the Earth and with each other. Amidst the beauty of God's creation, young adults will seek to perceive and respond to these new things by celebrating, learning and sharing, and together becoming beacons of God's new way in the wilderness and river in the desert.

The gathering is sponsored by Young Adult and Higher Education Ministries of the Episcopal Church.
