Celebrating the Church; Past, Present & Future September has been a month of celebration for the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of East Tennessee. From the celebration of 150 years of the Episcopal Church in Greeneville to the dedication of new facilities in Hixson and Signal Mountain and groundbreakings in Johnson City and Knoxville. New Nave & Classrooms Dedicated at St. Timothy's Five years of planning and more than a year of construction culminated in a glorious festival service Sunday, September 17, when St. Timothy's, Signal Mountain, consecrated and dedicated its new 400-seat church and a lower floor of eight classrooms. Good Samaritan Begins Building & Renovation With joy and elation, the Church of the Good Samaritan, Knoxville, broke ground on Wednesday, September 13, 2000, for its new building and renovation project. At least one of the church members present, Jane Cobb, had been present for the two previous groundbreaking ceremonies since the founding of the parish. Bishop Has Concerns About Nassau Coalition The Rt. Rev. Charles G. vonRosenberg, bishop of the Diocese of East Tennessee, has expressed misgivings over the "Nassau Coalition--A Broad-Based Consultation on Anglican/Episcopal Essentials," which met in Nassau August 21-23 to discuss the implications of resolution A045, which calls for "continued monitoring" of compliance with the canons on women's ordination, and D039, which asks for pastoral support of lifelong, committed relationships outside of marriage. Nassau Coalition Alleges ‘State of Pastoral Emergency’ in ECUSA (ENS) A group of conservative Anglican leaders has alleged that a "state of pastoral emergency" exists in the Episcopal Church as a result of resolutions passed at the Denver General Convention regarding the women's ordination canon and human sexuality. Knoxville is Site of Convention 2001 The Hyatt Regency Hotel in Knoxville will be the site of the Seventeenth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee to be held Feb. 9-11, 2001.
