B & C Selects Site for New Diocesan House

Members of Bishop and Council visited a proposed site at the Episcopal School of Knoxville for the relocation of Diocesan House before their meeting at the Church of the Good Samaritan on Friday, June 22.

During their meeting following the tour, a motion was made, seconded and passed to build the new building for Diocesan House on the Lovell Road property pending discussions with the Episcopal School of Knoxville and completion of other required studies and preparations by the architects.

According to the consulting architects, Cope Associates, Inc., the location at ESK -- one of three at the school that were under consideration along with sites on Cedar Bluff Road and in downtown Knoxville -- is an old home site and offers a blend of public visibility and sanctuary. It has good access from the school’s existing driveway and from Gilbert Drive.

The decision to sell the existing Diocesan House to St. John’s Cathedral to meet its expansion needs was made by the Council in March.

Proceeds from the sale of the Cumberland Avenue property will be used to fund the new construction and move.

In other action by Bishop and Council: the Rev. Albert “Bo” Lewis was named Director of the Diocesan Camp and Retreat Center. He will begin this new position in September.
