Bishop & Council Delays Vote on Relocation of Diocesan House Although the decision to sell Diocesan House to St. John's Cathedral for fair market value and moving expenses was unanimous, members of the Bishiop and Council was not ready to decide where to relocate the diocesan offices. Council requested that definitive proposals be presented at the May 4 meeting when a decision will be made. Diocesan Camp & Conference Center Update Finally, all the surveys are completed, the titles checked and the papers signed. As of the last week of May, the Manley property on the Tennessee River near Watts Bar belongs to the Diocese of East Tennessee. Teaches That Celebration was the tone of the conference which dealt with stewardship in the fullest sense of the word. Living a life of abundance and understanding how the stewardship journey and spiritual journey intertwine was the focus. Walking 'The Pilgrim's Way' A Christian's life from birth to death was celebrated at the dedication and blessing of the Pilgrims' Way at St. Francis of Assisi in Ooltewah. It features a walkway from the church down to, a baptismal font and gardens for the scattering or burial of ashes. Doing 'Something' Leads Former Physicist to Serving in Prision Ministry Roles "Youre somebody. YOU do something!" Those words spoken to Jim Muir when he complained that "Somebody ought to do something about crime" motivated him to get up and get busy. Profile Diocesan News Briefs Clergy News The Rev. Don E. Johnson, 52, was elected Bishop of the Diocese of West Tennessee on March 30. He has served as rector of Church of the Resurrection in Franklin, Tennessee since 1996. He has also served churches in Johnson City, Chattanooga and Memphis. His consecration is scheduled for June 30.
The Rev. Canon Neil Alexander, 47, was elected Bishop of Atlanta March 31. Since 1997, Alexander has been professor of homiletics and liturgics at the University of the Souths School of Theology in Sewanee, Tennessee. He is also priest in charge of St. Agnes, Cowan. His consecration is scheduled for July 7.
Three retired clergy named priest associates at St. James,
Knoxville According to the rector, the Rev. Joe Ballard, it is simply
recognition for the part these retired clergy play in the life
of St. James Parish. He said, Ever since Ive
been here, I have relied on the experience of the retired clergy
who are a part of [the life of St. James]. On those occasions
when I simply cannot be in more than one place at a time, Ive
always known that, as with our Deacon Larry Beach, I can call
