Gregory Awarded ECW's Tucker Scholarship Ashley Gregory, a 2001 graduate of South Doyle High School in Knoxville, is this years recipient of the Mollie Hazen Tucker Scholarship awarded by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of the Diocese of East Tennessee. Gregory is an active member of St. James, Knoxville where she has served as an acolyte, is a member of the Episcopal Young Churchmen and has assisted in the Childrens Chapel program. She is active in the community also, giving her time working with Volunteer Ministry Center and feeding the homeless. She plans to volunteer this summer at UT Hospital on the oncology unit. She was selected at the YWCA Teen Woman of the Year for 2000. At South Doyle she has been a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, and the Russian Club of which she served as vice president. She was named to Whos Who Among American High School Students, and Kee of the Month for Citizenship. She has been a majorette with the high school marching band and has won numerous awards for her baton twirling. Gregory plans to attend Maryville College where she has been accepted into the Bonner Scholars Program. She plans to study nursing, specializing in oncology. Gregory is the daughter of Carolyn Gregory of Knoxville and the granddaughter of Swance and Mary Huffaker of Knoxville. The Tucker Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of East Tennessee to assist deserving Episcopal women who are high school graduates or have obtained their GED and are in need of financial assistance to pursue a college education or trade. Since 1988, over twenty women in the Diocese have been awarded Mollie Tucker Scholarships for $1,000 each. The Scholarship is Funded from monies donated by the ECW branches, individuals. Anyone who would like to contribute to the Tucker Scholarship Fund may do so by sending a check made out to the Fund and mail to Melinda Davis, Treasurer, 5421 Dogwood Road, Knoxville, TN 37918. |
