Community Involvement
Draws People Communicants at St. Joseph the Carpenter in Sevierville are celebrating a successful Mountain Festival and Pig Roast. In the seventh year for the event, repeat customers from Ohio, Illinois and Florida as well as from Sevierville came out to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather, the fine music and excellent food and crafts. One couple arrived in town and drove straight to St. Joes because they thought it was about time for that church to be having their pig roast. At least two families came in search of a church home with one declaring, I think we have found our church. We liked what we saw today. People are beginning to find St. Josephs, Sevierville, in large part because of the churchs involvement in the community. The annual pig roast is a fund raiser for community outreach projects. This year, the festival brought in a profit of $4,148 plus another $264 from the Community Booth for local charities. And all of those benefits came on top of the most important one -- the St. Joes family coming together to serve God in this place and having fun doing it. The festival included games for children; entertainment by the Lonesome Mountain Boys, St. Josephs Choir, and Creek Mountain Band; craft and gift items; a silent auction of donated items (like restaurant gift certificates, a wine and cheese basket and collectible knives); and, of course, roast pig. For those who missed this years festivities, remember the third Saturday in October 2002 when St. Josephs will host their Eighth Annual Pig Roast! |
