Recipients of William E. Sanders Scholarship Fund awards were recently
announced. Those receiving scholarships this year were:
Francois Pierre, Jonathan Brian Harris, Germaine Sunu Dunn and Benita
Joy Francis are the 2001 recipients of the William Evan Sanders Scholarships.
Benita Francis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Francis of Hixson.
She intends to study pre-med at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee.
Benita is a parishioner of St. Albans in Hixson.
Germaine Dunn, daughter of Elwood and the Rev. Matilda Dunn of Chattanooga,
is a sophomore at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. She plans
to graduate in 2003. She is a National Dead Poet Society Regional Finalist
and has made the National Deans List. She is listed in Whos
Who Among American College Students. Germaine also received a William
E. Sanders scholarship last year.
Alex Porte, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Porte of Cleveland, is studying
computers/engineering at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville,
Tennessee. He is a member of St. Lukes Church, Cleveland.
Jonathan Harris, son of Henry and Cola Harris of Ooltewah, is a senior
majoring in music and minoring in information systems at Austin Peay
State University. He is planning to study at the University of Missouri
in Kansas City while fulfilling an apprenticeship at the local opera
company. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity.
Francois Pierre, son of Alexander and Rita Pierre, is a freshman at
Pellissippi State Technical Community College. Named Best Soccer Player
in high school, Francois also played basketball. He presently volunteers
his time to serve in the church nursery at St. James Church, Knoxville,
where he is a member.
