ESK Students Were up to the 'Challenge'
in Destination Imagination Competition

The sixth and seventh grade team from the Episcopal School of Knoxville won first place in the Destination Imagination competition. Winning team members are; Elizabeth Bates, Will Bullock, Haley Corapi, Merrit Burton, Krista McMurry, and Ian Sudderth.

For the second year in a row, ESK is headed to the state competition for Destination Imagination. Destination Imagination, or DI for short, is an outgrowth of Odyssey of the Mind, Which still runs similar contests. Each team picks a type of "challenge" for which to prepare. All teams have eight minutes in which to give their performance, and creativity is important in the judging of each team.

ESK has two teams in DI competition. They traveled to Roane State Community College on Saturday, March 9th, very early in the morning for a very exciting and busy day.

The fifth grade team members are; Will Browning, Cyrus Bufkin, Beth Watson, Margaret Sudderth, Zach Hethmon, Josh Adams, and Matthew Adams. They competed in the StranDId competition and tied for third out of a field of eight teams.

The fifth grade team chose the StranDId challenge. The team is in a stranded situation and they have to build and use three devices to get out. The teams have to build and design everything by themselves with no parental help. The title of the teams' skit is "StranDId in Will's Brain".

The sixth and seventh grade team chose Dual Dilemma. The team has to build two structures, one out of balsa wood, glue, and paper. The other out of balsa wood and duct tape. Then the team presents a skit with two contrasting segments, a contrasting costume change, and a contrasting set change.

Kathy Banker, the sixth grade teacher at ESK is the coach for both of the teams. She puts in many, many hours of her personal time for the two teams.

They travel to Nashville on Saturday, April 13th, for the state competition.
