AMT Launchs School
Supplies by Pam Doty Some of these children live with poverty so extreme that their families have to choose between buying groceries or buying school supplies. This year, the churches of East Tennessee plan to fill 650 backpacks with pencils, paper, crayons, scissors, glue, etc. for students in 15 Campbell County schools. The Appalachian Ministries Team has suggested that churches use the project as the mission offering for Vacation Bible School or for other organizations within the parish -- ECW, Mens Group, Youth Group, etc. The Team suggests that a Sunday worship service be designated for the ingathering and blessing of the offerings of backpacks, supplies and monetary gifts to hold up both the need and the help. The deadline for bringing the back packs to drop-off locations is July 28. Drop-off points are: South East - St. Martin of Tours, Chattanooga Upper East - St. Christophers, Kingsport Middle East - St. James, Knoxville Monetary donations, both individual and corporate, should be made payable to the Diocese of East Tennessee, marked Appalachian School Supplies, and mailed to Mary Berl, Diocesan Financial Officer, 401 Cumberland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37902. The backpacks will be delivered to Campbell County Schools on August 8, 2002. For more information, contact Patty Chase, Diocesan Coordinator of the Appalachian School Supplies project, at 865-524-0551. List of Needed Items Intermediate Middle & High School
