Spouses of clergy were shuttled Saturday, Feb. 8, to lunch and the Hunter Museum of American Art for fellowship and fun during the diocesan convention. Anne Choyce, spouse of the Rev. George Choyce, St. Timothy-Signal Mountain, and Annie vonRosenberg hosted an event that began with a shuttle to the Back Inn Café, which overlooks the Tennessee River. A leisurely lunch in a private room was “out of this world,” according to Jan Lewis, spouse of Grace Point Vicar Bo Lewis. At the Hunter Museum, a docent-guided tour provided information about permanent exhibits and about two special installations. Judy Chicago’s “Resolutions: A Stitch in Time,” used needlework to interpret familiar adages. A Sandy Skoglund installation called “Breathing Glass” included Chattanooga-made art in which participants supplied objects to be painted and plastic-wrapped during a workshop. Then they were placed into a populated tableau. The photographs of the workshop “became the art,” Lewis explained. “Going to the museum was a wonderful idea,” she added, that allowed spouses to “enjoy one another’s company in a very informal setting.” Those attending were able to mingle among the exhibits and enjoy relaxed conversation. And participants could choose when to catch the shuttle for the return to the convention hotel. Lewis said this clergy spouse event was “the best one, I think, that we ever had.”
