On three recent Sundays, parishes examined each of the three beneficiaries of Grow in Mission: ministries on college campuses, Grace Point Camp and Retreat Center and students in seminaries. Each ministry is a vital part of the mission of this diocese, which the bishop affirmed when he wrote: “As we increase support for campus ministries, we will encourage the work of evangelism – of telling the good news of Jesus Christ – and we will do so in the tradition of the Episcopal Church, as we encourage, challenge and accept the young people on college campuses. “As we enhance the aid given to seminarians, we will focus on recruiting younger men and women, who will serve the Church for years to come, combat the clergy shortage we face and provide excellent ordained leadership that the Church needs. “Finally, as we develop Grace Point, our camp and retreat center, we will provide a resource to church and diocesan gatherings, for individuals seeking spiritual nourishment and enrichment and for you youth as they ‘grow up in an unsteady and confusing world.’ (BCP, p. 829). In all these goals, our intention is to follow the command of Jesus and to Grow in Mission.” In this issue of the Episcopalian, you can read more about these ministries in the cover story of Diocesan Day at Grace Point, as well as on this page in the story of a seminarian, a report on clergy shortage and a discussion of campus life. As you read, you are invited to prayerfully support these ministries. Pledge cards are on the Web at www.etdiocese.net/stewardship/campaign/pledge-card.php or by request from Diocesan House, 865-521-2900. Related stories:
