Resolutions of Greetings of Appreciation and Gratitude
Be It Here Resolved that our deep appreciation and thanksgiving be extended to Suzanna Metz and Margie Roberts Johnson for the heavenly music they provided to enrich our worship experience during the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee. Be It Here Resolved that our gratitude be expressed to the Rev. Matthew Dutton-Gillett for so skillfully weaving the service of Holy Eucharist throughout our convention and for keeping us rooted in prayer and mindful of God’s hand in our common life together in the Diocese of East Tennessee. Be It Here Resolved that our deep appreciation and gratitude be extended to the Milligan College String Quartet and the Heritage Singers for their fine program of music during the banquet for the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee. Be It Here Resolved that our deep appreciation and thanksgiving be extended to St. John’s Church, Johnson City, and its clergy, parishioners and staff for their generosity in making their beautiful church and facilities available for the service of Evensong for the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee, and to Patricia Denmark for directing the choir and helping plan the service. Be It Here Resolved that the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee express its gratitude to Walter and Nancy Dougherty and their wonderful force of volunteers who have greeted us and provided invaluable assistance throughout our proceedings. Upon her retirement of Bishop’s Deputy for Program, Be It Here Resolved that the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee expresses its heartfelt thanks for the many years of devoted lay ministry so faithfully and enthusiastically carried out by Carolyn Dicer, serving the needs of clergy and laity alike throughout the diocese and the church at large. Upon his retirement as Assistant Treasurer, Be It Here Resolved that the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee offers its deep appreciation to Bob Newman for the financial expertise he has so cheerfully given, not only as Assistant Treasurer, as a member of the Budget and Finance Committee, and the Opportunity Fund committee, but also for his guidance to mission congregations, and his constant availability to the Diocesan Administrator to verify expenses and sign checks each week. Be it here resolved that the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee express its thanks to those who labored to make this convention possible with their time and talents, especially Gary and Jackie Mabrey, Rich and Linda Gordon, Jean Archer, Steve Alexander, Bill and Mary Alice Fryar, Dale and Joni Cannon, Ellie Snow, Joel Phillips, Benny and Kelly Baird, Fred Mackara, Clem and Tonya Wilkes, Bill Archer, Amy Combs, Jo Anne Paty, Walter and Nancy Dougherty, Gwen Stout, the Rev. Frank Cooper, the Rev. Maggie Zeller, The Rev. Matthew Dutton-Gillett, Mary Berl, Alice Clayton, Tami Dyke, and Rosemary Davenport. Also, Be It Here Resolved that the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee would like to express our appreciation for Bishop Charles vonRosenberg and thank God for this witness to the Gospel. In a time of controversy and possible division, our bishop has been for us an incarnation of the grace and hope of unity, constancy, and peace in the Body of Christ Affectionate Greetings Be It Resolved, that affectionate greetings in Christ be sent to Mrs. Helen Vander Horst, a person dearly remembered as one of our diocesan family. Be It Resolved, that our love and affectionate greetings in Christ be sent to Mrs. Ann Tharp, a person dearly remembered as one of our diocesan family. Be It Resolved, that affectionate greetings in Christ be sent to Bishop William E. Sanders, a person dearly remembered as one of our diocesan family. Memorial Resolutions Be It Resolved that the Twentieth Annual Convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee does recognize and give thanks to God Almighty, for the exemplary life, remarkable witness, and untiring contributions of the late Right Reverend Robert G. Tharp, during his tenure in the Diocese of Tennessee, the Diocese of East Tennessee, and the Church at large. While serving as rector of St. Peter’s Church, Columbia, as Canon to the Ordinary of the Dioceses of Tennessee and East Tennessee, and as the Second Bishop of this the Diocese of East Tennessee, he left a mark that was not his alone, but also that of the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
