Shared ministry a shared interest 130 gather to discuss partnership of clergy, laity
By Sharon Rasmussen
Discover, respond, honor, affirm, involve, equip, support, empower, grow, thrive, transform. Shared ministry. Mutual ministry. Ministry of all the baptized.
Powerful phrases and positive terms glowed like jewels through the energized discussion and frequent laughter at a conference called, “We are all Partners in Ministry,” held March 27 at the Episcopal School of Knoxville and featuring the Rt. Rev. Jim Kelsey of Northern Michigan.
Youth ‘leap’ into Lent at annual diocesan junior high retreat For the second year, junior high youth met together in Ocoee, Tenn., for a weekend of prayer, discussion and lots of fun. The theme for this year’s Patterson Junior High Retreat was “Take a Leap of Faith,” based on the Steve Martin film “Leap of Faith.” Woven into the context of Lent, the movie-based discussions gave participants a chance to examine faith in terms of Lenten discipline and the need for healing. Set at Horn’s Creek Conference Center in Ocoee, Tenn., the weekend also provided fellowship and recreational activities including a bonfire, hayrides and horseback riding. In addition, this year’s event was blessed with an incredibly beautiful weekend of blue skies and starry nights. The Patterson Junior High Retreat is held annually by the Diocese of East Tennessee. The weekend is programmed and staffed by high school youth for junior high (6th-8th grade) youth. If you missed it this year, be sure to catch it next March. Information is available at etdiocese.net/youth. Episcopal monk’s ministry places him among Chattanooga homeless Ron Fender is dedicated to giving the homeless a voice.
