FRANCIS OF ASSISI, OOLTEWAH
— A quote from theologian Richard Hooker seen on the cover of a recent
“Hoot”: “Pray that none will be offended if I seek to
make the Christian Religion an inn where all are received joyously, rather
than a cottage where some few friends of the family are to be received.”
CHRIST
CHURCH, CHATTANOOGA
— Excerpt from the Rev. Jocelyn Bell’s column in the “Reminder”:
“We often approach time (a day, a week, etc.) as something to be seized
and worked through — a giant date book, if you will, with lots of
little squares to be filled in. This book encourages us to see each day,
week, month and year as a gift from God to be received with gratitude and
to be used as God calls us to use it. So, we might begin our days …
by reminding ourselves that ‘This is the day which the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.’” ST. CHRISTOPHER, KINGSPORT — Excerpt from a recent column by Senior Warden Jeff Davis in the “Good News”: “Christ tells us that we are to go into the world teaching and baptizing in His name and making disciples of the nations of the world. This is the Great Commission, and it is emphasized in some form in each of the Gospels. ‘Love the Lord with all that you are and love your neighbor as yourself.’ This is the Great Commandment, Christ tells us through Matthew and Mark. These two statements are not exclusive; they are inclusive. It is through our love of God and neighbors that we teach and baptize. It is through our love of God and neighbor that we bring the Christ within us to others. By doing these things we become evangelists. It is that simple. We don’t have to shout and bang our chests or stand on street corners.” ST. PAUL, ATHENS — Seen in the parish newsletter: Some Rules of Life. 1) Never give yourself a haircut after three alcoholic beverages of any kind. 2) You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should, use the WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn’t, use the duct tape. 3) Everyone seems normal until you get to know them. 4) Work is good, but it’s not that important. 5) Be really nice to your friends and family. You never know when you are going to need them to empty your bedpan. |
