'Treehouse' is taking shape

The first youth dormitory is under construction at Grace Point! The concrete block area in the photo above is the bathroom foundation, and the concrete pilings behind the trees at left - and not as visible at right - are an example of those that will support the entire structure. Targeted gifts are funding the building, which will be completed later this year. An artist’s concept of a finished “treehouse” is below.

News Nuggets

Chapel site: Ginny Tolbert, who heads the Master Plan Committee, has worked with the Rev. Rob Henley to relocate the Shoosters, who were the caretakers for the property’s previous owner. Their house on the Point will be demolished so that a chapel can be built there, using $500,000 pledged by the people of St. Paul, Chattanooga. Tolbert reported to the board that a new manufactured home has been purchased for the Shoosters and that site work is under way to place it on Grace Point land near their son’s property.

Survey: The Grace Point Board of Managers and Bishop and Council hoped to discover in a survey published in the April/May East Tennessee Episcopalian what groups might use Grace Point and what facilities those groups might use. Only 105 responses were received; however, some conclusions can be drawn. It appears the average size of the group that may use Grace Point is about 20 and that a group of 50 or more would be rare. Accommodation preferences seemed divided: Small multi-bedroom cottages with private baths were preferred by 40 respondents, and 32 expressed a preference for inn-type lodgings.

Guest services: The guest check-in/check-out process has been formalized, and color copies of the newly updated Guest Services and Information Manual have been placed in the Retreat House and in the Commons Building. Black-and-white photocopies of the manual are available for use elsewhere on the property. Guests are urged to print a personal copy from the PDF document at etdiocese.net.

Sisters of Grace: This “landscape support group” launched by Jan Lewis has removed overgrown bushes, started developing a Stations of Creation trail and plans to maintain the flowerbeds at the camp and retreat center. Volunteers are welcome to join in! Contact Jan Lewis at 865-376-1133.
