Evening Session
The Right Reverend Charles G. vonRosenberg, Bishop of the Diocese of
East Tennessee, called the Seventeenth Annual Convention of the Diocese
to order with prayer at 6:45 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2001, at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel, Knoxville, Tennessee.
Quorum
The Bishop called on the Rev. Allan Cole, Chair of the Credentials
Committee, to report the following registration: 63 clergy, 109 lay
delegates, for a total of 172 delegates. There were 16 alternates and
41 others for a grand total of 229 in attendance. In accordance with
Article V of the Constitution, there was a quorum present for transaction
of business.
Election of Officers
Bishop vonRosenberg placed into nomination the names of the following
convention officers: Alice Clayton, Secretary of the Diocese; Rosemary
Davenport, Assistant Secretary, Don Sproles, Treasurer; Robert Newman
and Joseph Bacon, Assistant Treasurers; J. Douglas Overbey, Esq., Chancellor
of the Diocese; Thomas Hale, Esp., Thomas Peters, Esq., and the Hon.
Marie Williams, Vice Chancellors of the Diocese; and Dr. Nelle Bellamy,
Registrar of the Diocese. All were elected by acclamation.
Appointment of Parliamentarian
Bishop vonRosenberg appointed Thomas Peters, Esq., as Parliamentarian
and J. Douglas Overbey, Esq. as Assistant Parliamentarian.
Adoption of Rules of Order
Mr. Thomas Peters, Parliamentarian, moved that the Rules of Order
and the Order of Business be adopted by the convention. The motion was
seconded and carried.
Resolution of Invitation
The Rev. Carson Fraser moved the adoption of the following Resolution
of Invitation:
Resolved, That all Ministers of this Church not canonically resident
officiating under license and in charge of congregations in the diocese
be given seats and voice in the deliberations of this Convention; and
Resolved, that all Ministers of this Church present in this city of
Knoxville during the sessions of the Convention, all Postulants and
Candidates for Holy Orders in the Diocese, and all Ministers of other
communions present in Knoxville be cordially invited to seats upon the
floor of the Convention.

Introduction of New Clergy and Recognition of Seminarians
The Bishop introduced the new clergy in the diocese:
The Rev. Nicholas Beasley, Deacon, residing in Diocese of South Carolina
The Rev. Allan Cole, Assistant to the Rector, St. Andrew's, Maryville
The Rev. Craig Kallio, Rector, St. Stephen's, Oak Ridge
The Rev. Phil Purser, Rector, All Saints, Morristown
The Rev. Jack Rogers, Assistant to the Rector, St. Martin's, Chattanooga
Bishop vonRosenberg recognized the seminarians from the diocese: Wendie
Jekabsons, Claire Keene, Lou Parsons, Jim Sharp, Brad Smith, all attending
the School of Theology, Sewanee, and Bo Townsend, attending the Episcopal
Theological Seminary of the Southwest.
Introduction of Convention Chair and Co-Chair and Special Guests
The Bishop introduced the Convention Chair the Rev. Thom Rasnick and
the Co-Chair Ms. Meg Lonon, both of St. John's Cathedral, Knoxville.
Bishop vonRosenberg presented two special guests--the Rt. Rev. William
E. Sanders and the Rt. Rev. Robert G. Tharp, retired Bishops of East
Tennessee, who were greeted with a standing ovation.
