The purpose of the Episcopal Church Women is to carry on Christ's work
of reconciliation in the world, and one of the primary areas is in Christian
Mission. The ECW branches work together to support chosen missions for
the year so that together we increase the impact we can make.
One mission was Hosanna House, a home for physically challenged adults
in Chattanooga. Another was for building houses for people in the Third
World. Money for scholarships was given to Camp Billy Johnson and Camp
Gailor-Maxon, and contributions went to Holy Trinity School in Haiti,
to the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, and to the Bishop's Discretionary
Fund. The Mollie Tucker Memorial Scholarship was given to Jill Collins,
All Saints, Morristown, who attends Wilson College, Ashville, NC. The
UTO is sponsored and coordinated by the ECW, and this year a grant of
$15,000 was awarded to the Good Faith Clinic in Athens, TN, where health
care at no cost is provided by two physicians.
The ECW Spring Conference at DuBose with the dioceses of Tennessee
and West Tennessee had the theme "Coming Together in Prayer."
The Fall Meeting at St. John's Cathedral brought together over 100 women
and a number of clergy from all across the diocese.
Cathy Varner, Betty Morris, and Nancy Tanner were delegates to the
43rd Triennial in Denver. Mattie Campen, St. James, Knoxville, was recognized
at Triennial as the Honored Woman for the diocese.
Churches without an organized ECW have a contact person so that all
women of the diocese can participate in our work in mission and ministry
in the world.
