We met twice with the Bishop and discussed the newly organized committee's
duties. We adopted a gift acceptance policy drawn up by Ann Lamb. Gifts
to be evaluated include both real estate and other property.
We took the recommendation of the Bishop and others of the committee
who visited the two tracts of property near Newport donated by the Catherman
family and advised B. and C. that we did not want to sell either tract
now. We expect them both to increase in value and may sell them later,
keeping in mind the stipulation that the tract on Hwy. 321 not be sold
for commercial purposes. We notified the prospective buyers of our decision.
We asked Tom Peters to talk with the Bailey family about the possible
donation of land in Virginia.
We put the Tellico Village property on the market with a new agent
and sold it for current -market value.
We asked that we consider carefully any property that might be useful
for camp and retreat purposes before selling it and to work with the
Camp and Conference Committee in making recommendations.
We received a grant from Opportunity Fund to complete the renovation
of the Ruralia house in Rugby. The Bishop and members of the camp and
conference committee visited Rugby twice and saw the work done before
and after the kitchen, baths and front room were built and the roof
completed. We authorized the removal of trees damaged by beetle infestation
so that they are not in danger of failing or creating a fire hazard.
Volunteers from St. John's Cathedral, under Dave Miller's supervision,
have been instrumental in the renovation work.
Bishop and Council asked us for a corrected list of properties owned
by the diocese. Mary Berl has this list at Diocesan House.
Respectfully submitted by the Rev. Kay Reynolds
